Panjtan Society retain Alamdar Cup
Panjatan Society's Alamdar XI were victorious yet again over Al Mujtaba XI after an epic battle between the two friendly rivals. After having set a formidable target of 170, Alamdar XI were able restrict the home side to 152 for 9 to take the cup third time in a row.
Being played under the new Michael Clarke's Twenty20 rules, the game started with Al Mujtaba sending in the visitors to bat first after having won the toss. The opening batsmen stood tall for the first three overs dispatching the bowlers all around the field. Atha being used as the first bowling change in the fourth over bowled impeccably taking two wickets in his first over and a wicket in each of his two overs that followed. Kazim was the only other successful bowler in the second half after taking the batsman by surprise and bowling him over.
After having been dropped once each, Mustafain (44 not out) and Ali Fayaz (30 not out) showed some spectacular display of fireworks with the ball sailing over the fielders head successfully on several occasions. Extras (44) were among the leading runs contributing to the mammoth 170 target. Al Mujtaba started their run chase defensively with a young inexperienced opening pair, loosing the couple in second and fifth overs.
Mohammad Hussain played excellent shots all around Annangrove Park bringing up his fifty with a six over cover and hence retiring at 52 according to the rules. Hussain Abbas (9), Tanveer (10) and Mesam were all unsuccessful after the initial shot of each one had easily cleared the boundary. Rizwan (31) was the only one to narrow the gap with superb shots over midwicket but was unlucky to be run out.
Ali Fayaz and Amjad took two wickets each. Kazim and Rehan Ali, the retiring captain, with some tactical play were able to bring back the in form batsman Mohammad Hussain. But the task of scoring 20 runs in the last over with one wicket in hand proved to be overwhelming, Al Mujtaba finishing the game at 152 for 9 with extras (40) yet again proving to be among the highest scores.
The Alamdar Cup and the team Alamdar XI have been sponsored by the Alamdar Family of Melbourne in memory of their beloved family member and community youth leader, brother Alamdar (late) who died in a car accident in 2007 while visiting India

There was an unusual buzz at the centre that Saturday. Why not, Melbourne’s cricket and table tennis team were to arrive. This would be an opportunity for Imam Hasan Centre to avenge their defeat in Melbourne and once again be the first to host table tennis matches.
Sunday morning was crisp and fresh from the overnight rains. Rehan won the toss and opted to field to take advantage of the moisture in the air that would help swing the ball in air. This is exactly what happened and keeping line and length was a challenge. However Ata became the ace stricker for Imam Hasan Centres’s Al-Mujtaba team getting two early wickets in his first over? with accurate and well targeted bowling. This immediately put the visitors on the back foot. Extras and classic batting by Mustafain supported by Ali Fayyaz allowed the visitors to score a most competitive 170 runs forcing Imam Hasan Centre’s Al-Mujtaba team a target of 8.5 runs per over. Not an easy task by any standard!
This target was made even more challenging as the visitors started with accurate bowling making the task of scoring most difficult. Both Haider and Hani fought valiantly to keep the runs ticking and sacrificed their wickets in this pursuit. Mohammed Hussain then steadied the innings with his unbeaten 53 and made scoring boundaries look easy. As per new rules he had to retire upon crossing 50 runs. The relief on the faces of the opposing team can’t be described as they knew as long as Mohammed Hussain was at the crease, they had no hope of winning! Hussain Abbas and Rizwan then attempted to maintain the momemtum and Rizwan scored 31 most valuable runs. However he was quickly running out of partners. In the end Al-Mujtaba could only get 152 runs!
Al-Hasan in the next match avenged not only their loss in Melbourne but also Al-Mujtaba’s loss by completely outclassing Melbourne.
Imran won the toss and elected to bat. Meiraj scored a brilliant 53 not out and retired as per new rules. Ahmer faced only 3 balls and scored 11 runs including a six with a magnificient strick rate of 3.67! Shabbir too scored 23 runs in two overs including 3 sixes. It was then up to Imran who played a most responsible captain’s knock to steer the innings to a close with 185 runs. Imrans 26 included four 4’s and one 6.
It was now up to the bowlers. Javed, Ahmer and Bahloli performed amazingly. Javed was the most successful with 3 wickets in 3 overs for 18 runs. Ahmer and Bahloli contained the batsmen with only 7 runs in 2 overs and 11 runs in 3 overs respectively. The Melbournites found it impossible to score and wickets collapsed at regular intervals. It was then a mere formality and Al-Hasan won convincingly.
All in all it was a great event. As Moulana said, these games are bridging the Melbourne and Sydney communities in ways that only time will reveal.

IHC VS PANJATANI – CRICKET CHALLENGE 2008
ALAMDAR CUP
1ST Match :Al-Mujtaba XI (for IHC) VS Alamdar XI (for Panjatani)
Played In Sydney on 30/03/08.
PANJATANI STRIKES BACK!
Alamdar XI 154/5 (Asad 78 n.o, Kazim 2wkts) DEFEAT Al-Mujtaba XI (133/6, Abbas 35, Mansoor 27, Raza and Asad 2wkts each) by 21 runs
Man of the Match: Asad for Alamdar XI
Umpires: Zain Sherrif, Shoaib and Rehan.
For those who missed out on the previous match result (played in Melbourne), Al-Mujtaba XI were the victors. The ALAMDAR CUP has been sponsored by Panjatani Society, Melbourne in memory of their dear community member and volunteer, brother Alamdar (late) who died last year in a car accident while visiting India.
It was a perfect sunny day for an exciting match to be played between the 2 friendly rivals. Captain Abuzar of Al-Mujtaba XI won the toss and immediately offered the batting to Captain Khurram of Alamdar XI. There was a bit of frost on the ground and the outfield was expected to be slow in the morning. Despite the initial disadvantage, Alamdar XI batsmen started off cautiously and kept the scoreboard ticking through good running between the wickets. Scoring boundaries was hard to get because of the slow outfield plus Al-Mujtaba’s young bowling attack, namely Osama, Hani, Ali, Atah and Rizwan kept the score under control with their line and length and impressive pace bowling. Halfway during the innings (10 overs), the guest team could only manage 59 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. However as the frost disappeared, the runs started flowing in too. A massive 95 runs were scored in the final 10 overs, and the hallmark of Melbourne teams batting was Asad who remained undefeated at 78 runs. As always, extras remained the 2nd biggest contributor to the total score (31 runs). Alamdar XI were finally able to achieve a defendable score of 154/5.
Al Mujtaba started spiritedly in pursuit of the winnable target of 155 runs. On an over to over basis comparision, the Sydney team’s score was at par with the Melbourne team i.e 59 in first 10 overs. They had plenty of batting to come but at 59/1, the Sydney batsmen were left needing a further 96 off the last 10 overs. Although Alamdar bowlers didn’t manage to take wickets at regular intervals, they curbed the flow of runs. It was testing times for the experienced (senior sydney players) against the talented Melbourne youngsters. All batsmen namely Abbas, Mansoor and Saman tried hard to flog and score quickly but the Melbournians kept the pressure on with their accurate bowling and magnificent fielding. By the end of the 15th over, the Sydney team had lost 5 wickets and still needed a mammoth 53 runs in 30 balls. The incoming young batsmen tried hard by swinging the bat around and taking cheeky singles –but unfortunately it was a few overs too late. At the end of the 20th over, Al-Mujtaba XI’s final score was 133/6 – short of 22 runs for an unlikely win.
Abbas Aly played a few brave shots but his 35 wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Sydney team. In contrast Asad’s all-round performance helped Alamdar XI prevail over Al-Mujtaba XI and earned him a very well deserved ‘man of the match trophy’
It was an well earned win for the young Alamdar XI – their excellent fielding and good running between the wickets gave them the winning edge over the Sydney team.
Overall it was a good all-round performance by both teams.
The next friendship match is likely to be played in November this year in Melbourne.
MAN OF THE MATCH- AHMER MIRZA FOR Al-HASAN XI FOR FIGURES OF 3 WKTS FOR 20 RUNS IN 4 OVERS.
Umpires: Zain Sherrif, KAZIM and Rehan.[EDIT FOR CONTENT]
A wonderful day for cricket bright and sunny and what a tough contest in the previous game between al-mujtaba xi (for ihc) vs alamdar xi (for panjatani).everyone was now gearing for the other contest and the toss would play a crucial role.captain for al-hasan xi imran naziri won the toss and invited the guests into bat.perfect conditions for batting and everyone expected to be a high scoring game.
first over of the game was to be bowled by hayder rajani and the host got a good start as desired and the score at the end of the over was 12/1,but the host could not take momentum with the loss of early wickets and the score reached 88/3 at the end of the 10 overs.as per the score after 10 overs al-mehdi xi should have scored more than 180 runs but good bowling by veteran ahmer mirza pulled the game right back in favour of the host.a good knock in the end by the captain ali fayaz concluded the innings at 154/5 in 20 overs with the captain n.o on 30 runs and top scorer asif with 45.al-mehdi xi captain ali fayaz looked happy
As he thought this was a very defendable score.
Al hasan xi started confidentaly at their home turf with both the batsmen mohammed hussain and mehraj faisal looking in good touch and the score reached 50 in just 5 overs for no loss of any wickets.al-mehdi xi bowlers really tried as hard as possible but were let down by some ordinary fielding and both the openers getting 2 chances on which they capitlised .it was a partnership which never looked like breaking but in the middle there was a loss of time due to some injury to the captain of al-mehdi xi ali fayaz who had to be rushed to the hospital as he was suffering from major cramps.due to this incident our professional commentor mr abbas ali was given only 70 % of his match fees as he couldnt commentate thereafter.
finallythe match got started but there was loss of concentration from mehraj who tried to play across the line and was clean bowled but the damage had already been done with a match winning partnership of 124 runs for the first wicket.shabir the next man in didnt take much time in finishing the match by scoring a quickfire 22 and at the other end mohammed hussain was not out on 61 finishing with a match winning knock for the al hasan xi which archieved their target with 9 wickets in hand and 5 overs to spare.
In the end a sweet revenge taken by the al hasan xi for al-mujtaba xi loss which won the match very convincingly.after the match at the presentation ceremony ahmer mirza the veteron was given man of the match for his wonderful performance with the ball for 3/20 and proving himself that his name should be considered by the committee for the youths team.lastly the spirit of both the teams was immaculate and a thing to remember.
The next friendship match is likely to be played in november this year in melbourne and we look forward eagerly.
